Lottawatta Topcat Results

Now that it’s summer, tournament season is underway.  The most reason tournament took place was The Topcat Challenge this past weekend (July 11 & 12) at Lake Lottawatta located in Hamilton, Ohio.  The Topcat Challenge was the second stop in the Buckeye Buoy Tour.

Despite some rain on Saturday, it was a great weekend for skiing.  Slalom took place on Saturday.  With 36 total skiers entered to slalom, the top 15 from the first two rounds made the finals and got to ski under the lights at Lottawatta.  Taking first place in slalom was the lake owner Greg Lanich receiving a score of 2.5 buoys @ 22 off, giving him 100.67% of his average which was just barely enough to be Extreme Watersports’(and hopefully future University of Cincinnati) skier Sarah Rosenblum who skied 100% of her average buoy count. Taking 3rd place was Greg Houser of Lake Lottawatta.  Other highlights from slalom included Connor Nelson from Cincinnati, Ohio and James Russo from the University of Cincinnati running their first full passes ever in a tournament and both making it to the finals. And of course, everyone always enjoys watching Nate Smith from Champion Lake in Indiana ski.  He ran the highest pass of the day reaching 3 buoys @ 39.5 off!

Trick took place Saturday and Sunday.  Some highlights from the day included Samantha Ruehl tricking 4,730 points, 113.5% of her average, Sarah Rosenblum tricking 1,770 points, 111% of her average, and University of Cincinnati Coach, Greg Kuenning tricking 880 points, 125% of his average.  Taking first place in trick was Zach Schneider who pulled out a score of 1940 points, which was 124% of his average and gave him an overall of 114%. Following Zach, was Emma Miner who earned a score of 1390 points giving her an average and 112%.  The University of Cincinnati President Brad Ruff took 3rd place after tricking 740, 111% of his average.

The tournament ended on a great note with jump.  Highlights from jump included Mike Rouse reaching the century mark of 100 feet, which was 132% of his average, Nate Schneider jumping  115 feet, and Andrew French jumping 128 feet, which should be far enough for Andrew to make the Waterski National tournament for jump.  James Russo of the University of Cincinnati took first place jumping 63 feet and 59 feet, 113% of his average.  Second place went to Nick “Cowboy” Perrino who jumped 80 feet, 111% of his average.  Third place went to future University of Cincinnati skier Andrew Baker, jumping 47 feet, 109% of his average.
