UC splits win with OSU

The University of Dayton hosted the first collegiate tournament of the spring this past Saturday (4/18/09).  Although the water was a little chilly, it turned out to be a great day for a tournament!  The three schools that competed were the University of Cincinnati, the University of Dayton, and Ohio State University.

It was an uncommon two round slalom & trick tournament, and despite lacking some of our best skiers, we were able to split the win with Ohio State.  Ohio State won the first round with UC coming in second place.  The University of Cincinnati won the second round with Ohio State taking second place.

The highlights of the day for UC were:

  • Chris Van Treese - 3rd Place Men's Slalom - 4 buoys @ 36 mph
  • Chris Van Treese - 2nd Place Men's Trick - 1,530 points
  • Kacy Clifton - 1st Place Women's Trick - 740 points
  • Casey Thress - 2nd Place Women's Trick - 240 points

One of the most noticeable differences in this tournament was the newly acquired slalom rule allowing skiers to begin at a starting speed of 15 mph and run the course on anything they want (jumpers, trick skis, etc).  Casey Thress was able to run the slalom course for the first time ever in a tournament on a pair of jumpers and Kacy Clifton was able to do the same on a trick ski!

Overall the tournament was a success for everyone.  It was a great way for all the new members to get some tournament experience and see how things are run.  Time to keep up the improvement and show everyone what the University of Cincinnati is made of!
